The Desolation Wilderness - 100 square miles of lakes and streams in a polished granite landscape. Simply amazing! THIS is a gem in a wild setting. Have you been to Floating Island Lake, yet? Its on the way to Mt. Tallac. WOW!!!

I climbed Tallac last year and remember a few lakes along the way. We went to Island lake this year and found neat floating grass you could actually walk on, here's a pic:

Most of my overnight experience is all in Desolation Wilderness I love the place and it's only a short drive from my house...

In my long past travels in Desolation I have never been to Cup Lake...in fact I think this is the first photo I have ever seen of it. I would always dream about it while pouring over the topo though.

I believe the subject of trying to camp there came up over some recent memorial day discussions. When I 1st came up the east ridge of Ralston, I was expecting a lake, but not as dramatic as this. There's another hidden lake on the east ridge route of Ralston peak, and other rusted historical surprises...

Is Saucer lake the one along the same ridge? I do remember passing another small lake there, we came up along the east ridge, it's quite a bushwhack but very fun...

That is one great place. Can us mere walkers ever get up there? If so, that location is most certainly on my list of places to hike to when I get to the States.

A few weeks ago I took Handjam and Dragger up there in a snowstorm, it's not a hard walk at all. Plan on the summer for this area, I'd be glad to show you around if you ever come for a visit...
