Where does one come up from UBSL in this picture? I'm thinking about doing this peak this August and am wondering if I have what it takes to master the east ridge. Possibly alone, but hopefully with a partner.

Hi,
You come up to the low saddle a bit in the back. The E Ridge of Russell really isn't that bad. There's a lot of Class 2 and the exposure isn't too bad either. If it turns out to be too much, you can always back off and go up carillon instead as a consolation prize. That's the peak on the other side of the saddle in the picture. Have fun!

I guess these pictures just make it look really bad, but when on the ridge its just fine.
