Chimney Spire, non-technical [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Chimney Spire, non-technical
The route on the east side of the spire is class 4 at best. Here I am in the early 70's, climbing in stiff 5 lb hiking boots. A friend, with fear of heights, accompanied me up the same route.

(If you judge this telephoto pic, realize that it was scanned from a print taken long ago. The purpose of the image is to show that the eastern route is not technical. However, the soft metamorphic rock requires some care, especially on descent.)
