Mogollon is a small town of about 15 permanent residents tucked into a narrow canyon in the Mogollon Mountains, on the approach road to Whitewater Baldy Peak, New Mexico. In its heyday, it had many thousands of residents working the mines around World War II, which is amazing when you view the town and topography - it's literally just a few hundred feet wide! Houses were built on top of one another up the steep hillsides -- it must have been crowded!

The town has a single restaurant (the Purple Onion) and a couple curio shops. It's great to just walk around. The road in, NM-159, is very narrow and steep, with no guardrails. In winter the town's businesses close for the season.
