The highest point
on Black Crook Peak is the one with the "white" spot. A benchmark is amazingly placed atop that rock.

Yes, it's all comin' back now. Back
in the late 1970's, I was wanderin'
around in these mountains as a kid.
Actually, I believe I climbed Red
Pine Peak
when I was looking for
some deer. I also did some fishing
down at Vernon Reservoir.

I think you know where "Lookout
Pass"
is - along the Pony Express
Route between the Sheeprock and
Onaqui Mountains. It's not a fire
lookout; it's more of a lookout
for Indians that were interfering
with the swift completion of the
rounds of the Pony Express riders.

I always enjoy your tidbits on the area. I think there is a page on Red Pine Peak or at least a photo taken from there of Black Crook. My son had a ward outing at the Vernon reservoir and I remember seeing the sign that pointed to it. Lots of interesting stuff in that part of Utah for sure and I'll do more exploring when the weather improves up here. Thanks for your votes and comments.

Not a problem, Dean! I heard there
were remains of a F-16 crash somewhere
on Black Crook. Several miles to the
north, there used to be a "highway"
that went from Dugway all the way to
Ibapah on the west side of the Deep
Creeks. It was called the Lincoln Highway,
and was used between 1919 - 1927.
It skirts just to the north of Granite
Peak. Have a great one!!!
