Mule Deer

She was grazing on rabbitbrush along with three other does.
Mount Charleston Wilderness. November 2007.

Mule Deer (Odocoileus Hemionus) migrate from higher elevations to lower ranges with decreasing temperatures. They mate in late November and early December. Fawns are born in late May or early June and usually stay with the doe for the first full year of their life.

Mule Deer can reach speeds of 45 mph for short periods.

Great photo, Anya!

These are a favorite of my wife's - we always see them on top of the Mogollon Rim east of Payson, AZ. Can never get close enough to take a picture.(GREAT CONTRAST between the brush & the deer!) Here's the place where I saw a huge herd of Desert bighorns in 1995. It was just TWO YEARS after a "100-year" flood.

	Hasn't voted	Thank you. They were eating the seeds of these bushes when I spotted them. I get a chance to photograph deer very seldom also. It was a nice reward at the end of a hike. Greetings, Anya.
