Russian Chapel below Vrsic pass [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Russian Chapel below Vrsic pass
Like a toy looks among strong beech trees the memorial Russian chapel below Vrsic pass. It happened in 1916, during World War I. Russian war prisonners were building the road across Vrsic pass for the Austro-Hungarian army. In spring deep snow covered these mountains and avalanches took hundreds of lives. Today, every year a memorial ceremony is held on this place, reinforcing the present friendship among European nations. November 11th, 2007.
