Plate Tectonic Subduction [ Sizes: Orig | Small | Thumb ]
Plate Tectonic Subduction
This illustration depicts the subduction of the Pacific ocean plate, under the North American plate, giving rise to the highly volcanic Cascade Range, and more to my point, the Rocky Mountain Range and its large granite batholiths.

Thanks for the comment Ejnar. I did not draw the illustration, so I do not want to take any credit for it on power or vote weight. I think it illustrates the theory of batholith formation though, so I included it in my text. I will try to improve the caption to better explain what is in the drawing.
Cheers!
