Orderville Canyon - ZNP [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Orderville Canyon - ZNP
Orderville Canyon - Zion National Park

Hiking down this tributary canyon of the North Fork of the Virgin River, you are dwarfed by towering Navajo Sandstone cliffs and spectacular scenery. The scenery is not all that people come for though, they also go to challenge the fun route and stay cool while hiking on a hot summers day.

I liked Orderville. Unfortunately, I didn't have a wetsuit, and the water was 45F, so I did a lot of jumping up and down and punching the air to fend off hypothermia.

I don't think I would have been liking it much in those conditions. ;) What month did you go?

It's okay in the summer, but yeah... the rest of the time it can be painful without a wetsuit! In the spring I will hike to the end of the Riverside Walk Trail and put my feet it... it's amazing how COLD that water can be!

It was Memorial Day 2006, but the temperature at the lodge that day was just ~73F. I expected warmer water. I was told the temperature estimate after the fact; I'm not sure I believe it.

The rangers should have given some beta when you picked up your permit... as to the temperature of the water.... that had to be miserable. In May that water is sooooooo COLD! The best times to go are mid-June to mid-September when the water is warmer.
