Hasn't voted | Well, the obligatory and fabled Alpine Start™ does typically require much bleary-eyed and wooley-headed trashing about in the cold and dark at some unreasonable hour in order to get out onto the day's route at the prescribed time.
The reward for the sleep-deprivation and discomfort is that you get to experience some sublime moments in the mountains as the darkness turns to light. An added bonus of an early start in the alpine environment is of course that your chance of getting ice, rocks and/or thunderstorms on the head is somewhat reduced.
