The east face of The East Temple
The East Temple is a one of the most well known landmarks in Zion. It is a huge mountain that rises over 2,000 feet above the east side of the canyon. Courtney says the easiest route is 5.6X and is somewhat scary and dangerous. Several big wall routes have been climbed on the south face. The first ascent of The East Temple was made in 1937 by Glen Dawson, Dick Jones, Homer Fuller, Wayland Gilbert, and Jo Momyer

Hasn't voted | Thank you. I took this photo from Progeny Peak. It's a nice little mountain on the east side of Zion that has great views. I highly recommend it. | | Posted Jan 5, 2008 11:45 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Good view! It would be interesting to
climb up to that large alcove on the
east side! I suppose it (at one time)
had ancient "Anasazi" living in it.
I love the hanging gardens that decorate
many of Zion's walls! Beautiful, Melinda!

Hasn't voted | Thanks. I’ll watch you climb up to the alcove with my binoculars, it looks a little scary to me! If you are interested in Anasazi ruins you should take a trip to the southeastern corner of Utah. The area around Cedar Mesa and Grand Gulch has hundreds of them. | | Posted Jan 8, 2008 9:43 pm |

Voted 10/10 | If the seasonal weather conditions are
in your favor, it really doesn't look
like a big deal to climb up to that alcove.
Sure, you have to have the right gear,
including great climbing shoes and helmet.
There's enough artifacts here in central
Arizona to keep me busy. Can you imagine
if this wet weather keeps up what the
waterfalls and wildflowers are going to
be like in the desert this year??? | | Posted Feb 16, 2008 12:38 pm |

Hasn't voted | Larry, much of the rock is poor quality and offers little or no protection for the leader. Seems like a big deal to me. There are other big wall routes on The East Temple but they will require a lot more than climbing shoes and helmet ;-) Yes, this is the most snow I have seen in years. There will be plenty of waterfalls and flowers in the desert. | | Posted Feb 16, 2008 4:05 pm |
