always look so tall and majestic from
the highway, and you have to be in
outstanding physical condition to hike
into them from this side of the Range.
The west side is a little more easier.

you are right. The striking contrast between the arid landscape east of the crest and the snow-capped Sierra peaks is simply breathtaking.

are "storm-catchers." They capture most,
if not all, of the storms that blow in
from the Pacific Ocean. It was the Sierra
Nevada Mountains that "created" the Great
Basin Desert, and perhaps even the northern
half of the awesome Mojave Desert.
