The Yang Yang Lakes are in the lower right-hand portion of the photo. Behind them is the Flat Creek drainage. The Mt. Formidable massif is on the left, and Spider Mountain is on the right. The Spider-Formidable col with the steep snow thumb that must be descended is on the skyline right of center. August 5, 1988.

Voted 10/10 | A beautiful, clear day, just like the day I swam in this lake. Later that afternoon, we were navigating the LeConte and South Cascade glaciers by compass in a snowstorm!
Thanks for the pic and the tour.

Hasn't voted | I hadn't heard about your experience, but it is very similar to what we experienced, except that nobody swam in the lake. We got through the Sentinel-LeConte Col just barely before the cloud deck got down to that level, so we at least didn't have to navigate in fog. We had strong winds, but it wasn't cold enough to snow, and it didn't start raining until we had set up our bivy site just above the South Cascade Glacier on the SW ridge of Sentinel. We spent two nights at that bivy site. | | Posted Jan 15, 2008 8:02 pm |
