I think I have a better insight on
what's going on. It takes a lot of
precision and concentration and endurance...
and speed! How far are the participants from
the ground? That's really awesome!

Endurance is definately key, although you are essentially haning on to suitcase handles, you would be surprised how pumped you get. Concentration and speed are definately important factors as well. At this point the climber is probably 85 feet or so from the ground, you work your way out of a canyon.
