Roque de Agando [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Roque de Agando
Roque de Agando is located on the small island of La Gomera. Not sure if climbing is allowed here. There is a local superstition surrounding this area. *See comments section

Roque de Agando is what it's called in Spanish, not sure whether this means ghost. Actually there used to be climbing routes (UIIA IV and V) on the south face but with the declaration of the Monumento Natural de los Roques all climbing activities have been disallowed. Actually they say that on the rock they have found sanctuaries of the pre-hispanic inhabitants of the island, the Guanches.

After reading your comment, I googled it on the www and asked a friend of mine up in Vail. The closest I could get to an answer was that Roque 'could' mean castle. As far as Agando, that seems to be just a name.
Kinda cool what you said about The Guanches.
Thanks Gangolf!

I reattached your pic to the La Gomera page, where you can find another shot of the rock - with Teide / Tenerife in the background
