| The fall of a skialpinist | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
A skialpinist is falling in a couloir from the Veľká Zmrzlá dolina after climbing icefall of Medený vodopád that is upper than us. Nothing bad happened, he fell just few meters and then continued in downhill to the chalet. You see, in nice weather the valley is visited quite often. On the horizon is seen east part of the ridge of Belianske Tatry with Zadné Jatky (2020 m).

Voted 10/10 | Icefall can be very tricky and unstable at times and easy to
fall off of. I am glad he recovered and fell on snow and not
rock!
cheers

Hasn't voted | I too was quite scared, but he must have been very coldblooded. He took it as nothing - as if you fell on sidewalk in a city. True is, that the slope is not that steep in these parts. We also climbed that icefall - the first icefall in my life :) Cheers Tomas :) | | Posted Mar 17, 2008 6:48 pm |

Voted 10/10 | type of skis he is wearing. From this angle, they look very short (skis). Not long enough! In America, they have special skis of various lenghs more suitable for the terrain. Skis with metal edges! Oh well, anybody can have a bad day on the slopes. Glad he was not seriously injured!

Hasn't voted | He's wearing telemarks, skis used often for skialpinism in Slovakia. Shorter are better for the complicated terrain - you can for example turn in shorter time than in longer skis. Nothing happened, he is a proffesional, unlike me :) Cheers Tomas :) | | Posted Mar 29, 2008 11:48 am |
