The approximate trail that Curtis and I followed to Apple and Pear on Elk Mountain in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, OK. The trail to the Elk Mountain summit is class 1. However, upon reaching the summit area, it peters out to little more than animal trails (mostly Texas longhorns, which somehow wander up here). We headed across the granite slabs in a westerly direction until we spotted Apple and Pear, then made our way down to them. From there we scrambled a class 3 route to the south to a small creek that descended to the valley below. The return was along the Charon's Garden Hiking Trail, through Valley of Boulders and back to the parking lot.
