Salt Ridges [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Salt Ridges
Summer heat causes the salt pan to crack. Water underneath evaporates, allowing more salt to swell up, forming these cracked ridges, which can be several inches high. Even though Lake Manly evaporated millenia ago, the salt pan that it left behind continues to grow and change.

Great picture. Did you see that near Badwater? Thanks for posting.

Thanks! Yes, this one was almost within spitting distance of Badwater. We actually parked at a bend just south of Badwater since it offered faster access to the real salt flats. I could spend hours out there; fortunately, we hit it at sunset, and daylight forced a limit on me!
