Summit Block of Elk Mountain [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Summit Block of Elk Mountain

Don't let the use of an ultra-wide-angle lens fool you: This summit block on Elk Mountain in Charon's Garden Wilderness is at least 20-25 feet higher than the photographer. It has been estimated as a 5.9 to actually reach the top. The pool illustrates an interesting feature of springtime in the Wichita Mountains: Pothole ecosystems that quickly fill with grass and even tadpoles! Imaged in April 2008.

Thanks for stopping by, Mountainfriend. Since you liked that one, you might want to check out this other one, which I think is better.

Took it last year, but I needed the above image for a route page I'm putting together. --mark d.
