Levada Nova do Norte: on Madeira water is collected on the humid northern side of the island and led through these irrigation channels to the southern half. These levadas are good hiking trails - just walk on their narrow walls. If there's a sheer drop of 500m beside you this might become a little more interesting - as shown on the picture. May 2003
