The West Temple, 7,810 feet, is the highest mountain above Zion Canyon. The highest mountain in Zion National Park is Horse Ranch Mountain, 8,726 feet, in the Kolob Canyons area farther north.

Oops! I couldn't remember exactly what they said on the shuttle bus. Next time down I'll have to check out the Kolob Canyons. They sound pretty neat, with less crowds.

Kolob Canyons are less crowded and very beautiful. I recommend seeing both the Kolob Terrace section of Zion and the Kolob Canyons section. The turnoff to Kolob Canyons is right off of I-15. There is a nice scenic drive that goes to the end of the road.

The premiere backpack from here is to Kolob Arch. Nice day hikes include Taylor Creek which has north, middle, and south forks. The Middle Fork of Taylor Creek has a trail that goes Double Arch Alcove.
