North Twilight's North Face Couloirs [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
North Twilight's North Face Couloirs
The north face of North Twilight Peak is full of interesting couloirs. The moderate main couloir that starts at the bottom center of the photo and climbs to the left side of the summit is popular amongst skiers and is quite an aesthestic line. We climbed the narrower, steeper branch that goes straight up and tops out to the right of the summit. The maximum angle was around 50 degrees and a cornice at the top was negotiated without much difficulty. West Needle Mountains, Colorado. June 2008.

I had always wondered if that line had been climbed. I’ll bet the approach was interesting. Nice shot.

Thanks! The climb is now featured in a guidebook, "Colorado Snow Climbs" by Dave Cooper. We lucked out on the approach. It was long and there was a lot of snow still, but it stayed very firm.
