YUP, I got 'suckered in' on that suspicious SP Site Feedback thread! Recently, my wife and I enjoyed a hike to AZ's San Francisco Peaks area. This natural spring is located right outside the 'Kachina Wilderness' boundary, approximately 1.5 miles up the Inner Basin Trail. The springs in the Inner Basin supply some of Flagstaff's water, but are covered and locked, so it's necessary to carry your own water. Here, where the sign reads, "UNTREATED SPRING WATER," you can obtain your own drinking water with an adequate FILTER. Because of sub-freezing temperatures, this water source is only available from mid-May to mid-October. If you continue through the Inner Basin to the Weatherford Trail, you can turn left 100 feet on the Weatherford for a great panorama looking back at the Inner Basin and the Painted Desert far beyond. And ... if you see these two shady characters hanging OUT at the "UNTREATED SPRING WATER" sign, don't be alarmed! They were probably just posing for a picture on Summitpost! In fact, I washed my cotton socks (by hand) just so they'd look good for this picture ............ NOT!!! :)) July 2, 2008 Comments [ Post a Comment ]
