More evidence of that invaluable life lesson to get out of the damned car and walk. The Lamar Valley road in June is crawling with (1) clueless tourons in bison jams and (2) very knowledgeable wolf-watchers with high-powered scopes, cameras, and walkie-talkies. I'll spend some time with the second group, but not too much - - like the tourons, they stick to the road.

There's a beautiful trail at the east end of the valley, starting near the confluence of Soda Butte Creek and the Lamar River. We saw one other party out there, far from the madding crowd.
