Hyalite Peak [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Hyalite Peak
Hyalite Peak is in the center. The ridge in the foreground leads to Fridley Peak, but it crosses some pinnacles and minor summits along the way, making the trip there longer and more difficult.

Seen from the summit of Overlook Mountain.

EP12004The Ridge

Just wondering, how does the ridge look between Overlook and Hyalite Peak? Is it walkable or am I going to get into some sketchy situations without climbing gear? I guess what I'm asking is, how easily traversed is it?

Although I haven't done that stretch, I can say that looking at it from both Overlook and Hyalite, I'd say the section between Overlook and Fridley should not be a problem. If you're okay with Class 3 and 4 without any protection (on Class 4), go for it. Between Fridley and Hyalite, it's more rugged-looking, but the only thing that kept it from my plans was time constraints, as storms were obviously in the picture both days I was up there recently. This is just a guess, of course, but I certainly would be happy to give the full ridge a go, and I'm not one of those guys who free solos 5.7 and the like!
