This is the south side of...
This is the south side of Black Mesa. Photo taken looking roughly NW from a field full of cows (though none are seen here; I must have passed them already). This is the "old" way used before the new trail was built. It crosses private property but is maybe 3 miles shorter roundtrip. There is no trail but you don't really need one, just sturdy/solid shoes (i.e., no sandals). I made for the grassy slope between ravines right of center. The escarpment at the top was not difficult (15 feet of Class 3 at worst). From the top of the escarpment it was still several hundred yards of table walking to the high-point. July 2003.
