Thymelicus sylvestris [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Thymelicus sylvestris
Small Skipper - Thymelicus sylvestris - feeding during sunset on Gangelsberg above the Nahe River Valley. This is one of the few butterflies able to put up their fore and back wings at different angles. The brown tips of its antlers distinguish the Small Skipper from its close relative, the Essex Skipper - Thymelicus lineola - with its black tipped antlers.

Thanx Anya. Since you appear interested I put up this little guy, an Essex Skipper with the black ended antlers. I found it sleeping on our neighbour's lavender bush a couple of weeks ago. I like this picture better because of the heavy use of flashlight on the other.
