The Couloir [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
The Couloir
About 1000' of moderate and steep snow, much of it packed hard to the point of being icy, on the Gardner Headwall section of Stockaid Peak. Up top, head left and meander across the tundra for a few minutes to reach the Stockaid BM.

At upper left, you can see the two rock islands I used as the snow steepened and hardened even more (no crampons this day), and the final snow headwall I climbed to the summit plateau.

The numerous tracks from skis and snowboards attest to this site's popularity with the downhill-thrills crowd.
