Fuligo septica is a slime mold and it belongs to Protozoans, in the Kingdom Protista (organisms that do not have the distinctive characters of plants, animals or fungi). Slime molds were once thought to be fungi because they produce spores that are born in sporangia, a characteristic feature of some fungi. However, the assimilative stage in slime molds is morphologically similar to that of an amoeba. Young Fuligo septica are vibrant yellow. They can be found in the forests on dead wood from June to October.
