Dying glacier [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Dying glacier
The small Kraspesferner glacier is one of the dying ones. I guess in a few years this one has vanished. Photo taken 6/Sep/2008. Compare with this shot a few months earlier.

Note the heavy rockfall from Rotgrubenspitze which makes the ascent quite dangerous if you' re too close to the wall...

Wow, that' s a long time ago! Do you have photos from that time?? I give the glacier a maximum of 10 years until it is gone :(

I have some old B/W photos from the summit of Kraspesspitze, for some reason (probably economy!) I did not take any photos downward over the glacier, but I remember it reaching down to a little lake. I also saw it from Haggen, though, and it looked pretty much like on the map in my father's guide of the Stubai Alps from 1925! I wanted to walk up to the end of it, then at about 2500 m, but we did not have time, being on our way home
