Is this the usual amount of snow in January?

If you had asked me ten years ago I would have said yes. Unfortunately these days winter conditions are much less reliable, and the last couple of years have been truly dreadful. Scotland's a lot better though and there tends to be quite a bit of snow from December onwards, the best time being late February/Early March.
