Pilot Peak. [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Pilot Peak.
This photo was taken about 5 miles from the mountain. The road leads to the Miner's Canyon trailhead. A 4X4 is a must on this road! Pretty rugged. This road originally was for mines placed in Miner's Canyon. According to the Standardized 4 Wheel Drive Road Rating System portions of this road classify as road rating 7-8 due to the rugged nature of the road. One portion of the road crosses through two juniper trees, and interestingly an old Chevrolet truck tail lamp was ripped off someone's vehicle. It is badly rutted, with large rocks lining the sides of the road, enough to cause enough sidewall damage on the right rear tire on the vehicle pictured to blow out on I-80 when heading home after the hike that day. This occurred on October 31, 2008.
