Cracker Peak (9,833 ft.) and Mount Siyeh (10,014 ft.) By this point, we've already summited two peaks. Wynn Mountain (8,404 ft.) required nothing more than some strenuous hiking up its southern ridge. The second peak is an unnamed 9,190 foot peak that required some class 3 climbing to summit. It was an easy descent down the other side to the ridge that leads to Cracker and Siyeh. The ridge walk is very, very scenic! To the right is a fantastic view straight down to Cracker Lake with Allen Mountain, as well as a plethora of other peaks, off in the distance. To the left the terrain is marked by a moderately sloped scree field that leads down to the Boulder Creek Valley. To summit Cracker Peak, we just continued along the ridge and encountered nothing more than some scree/talus and class 2 and 3 climbing. NOTE: In J. Gordon Edwards A Climber's Guide to Glacier National Park, he talks of there being adequate water supply near the top of Cracker from melting snow. But the snow ain't there anymore! The entire Skyline ends up being 16 miles at the least, so bring plenty of water! 4 August 2008 Comments |
