Bottomless Powder [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Bottomless Powder
Took this photo from the lift at Taos Ski Area in 1983.

The skier is a patroller on the first run after a huge storm dumped 5+ feet of fluff. He is at the high point of the turn in the photo, this was the most we ever saw of him. It's still the deepest snow I have skied, up to my armpits while standing still on skis and not bottoming out.

Within a few minutes of taking this photo I was slammed by an avalanche and luckily landed with my head and one arm above the surface. The patrol closed the lift, I lost a ski and had a rough time getting down.
