Great couloir from hut approach
The Great Couloir from part way up to the hut on the SW side of Robson. The vertical relief here is close to 7000 ft to the summit. See full size pic to appreciate the scale.

The biggest avalanche that I have ever witnessed came roaring down out of this couloir while a friend and I were approaching the hut. Drama was added since the upper couloir was in cloud - we could hear the avalanche coming then it appeared out of the bottom of the cloud.

Our attempt on Robson for that year ended right then.....

Yikes - that would turn around everybody that I know.
Major mountain with very few windows of opportunity due to lots of hazards and fickle conditions.
