Low on Little Bear's NW Face [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Low on Little Bear's NW Face
Steep 4th class climbing on the lower portion of Little Bear's northwest face. This is directly above the black hand watermark and I like to refer to it as the "black hand headwall". Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Colorado. February 2009.

For the "hand headwall" we set up a proper belay. I took this picture at the top of that pitch when we were transitioning to simulclimbing. We found sufficient protection up the entire face, although making solid, redundant belay anchors on the longer 4th class headwall directly below the ridge wasn't trivial.
