Voted 10/10 | The Tushars are a beautiful little range, Marc. If you go to Colorado's San Juans, however, you'll see peaks a lot like this in all directions. These old volcanic ranges have incredible color.

Voted 10/10 | Mount Belknap, but he fails to explain the
interesting geology for said mountain.
Are these peaks perhaps volcanic in origin??? | | Posted Mar 4, 2009 8:19 pm |

Hasn't voted | The geology is really interesting for sure. The north end of the range has a much lighter volcanic type of rock, seen in the photo. Just to the south there is a basalt intrusive body that makes up the bulk of the southern end of the range which is almost a dark brown color. Delano Peak is composed of this darker rock. Belknap was a pretty popular area for miners during the late 1800's, there are plenty of mining roads along it's flanks. Fascinating country there for sure! | | Posted Mar 4, 2009 9:38 pm |
