Most of the Charles C. Deam Wilderness is recovering forest, previously agricultural land and woodlots. When the federal government bought up these lands in the 1930s as a recovery measure, it also sent the Civilian Conservation Corps in to plant pines. As a result, you'll often see stands of pines in the middle of the hardwood forest, as you see here. Comments |
