Hardwoods and Pines in the Deam [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Hardwoods and Pines in the Deam
Most of the Charles C. Deam Wilderness is recovering forest, previously agricultural land and woodlots. When the federal government bought up these lands in the 1930s as a recovery measure, it also sent the Civilian Conservation Corps in to plant pines. As a result, you'll often see stands of pines in the middle of the hardwood forest, as you see here.
