Voted 10/10 | Nice pic Daniel. I heard that avy conditions above the bergscrund kept you from summitting. Better to leave it for another day is good smart mountaineering. | | Posted Apr 20, 2004 1:36 am |

Hasn't voted | Oh, so that's what happened. Then this photo must be from Saturday, April 17. On Sunday the 18th I found about 18 inches of uncohesive snow on top of a solid melt-freeze crust. On this slope angle I wouldn't be concerned about a loose slough unless sun warming caused free water to penetrate the new layer. We were in a cloud cap on Sunday, so that wasn't an issue. | | Posted Apr 20, 2004 2:13 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks. It looked like the right side (icier and in the shade) would have been safer, but I decided it was a good day to live and turned back. Sometimes it's the journey that matters, not the destination :) | | Posted Apr 21, 2004 1:00 am |
