Nice pic Daniel. I heard that avy conditions above the bergscrund kept you from summitting. Better to leave it for another day is good smart mountaineering.

Oh, so that's what happened. Then this photo must be from Saturday, April 17. On Sunday the 18th I found about 18 inches of uncohesive snow on top of a solid melt-freeze crust. On this slope angle I wouldn't be concerned about a loose slough unless sun warming caused free water to penetrate the new layer. We were in a cloud cap on Sunday, so that wasn't an issue.

Thanks. It looked like the right side (icier and in the shade) would have been safer, but I decided it was a good day to live and turned back. Sometimes it's the journey that matters, not the destination :)
