Mt. Timpanogos Summit, 1991. [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Mt. Timpanogos Summit, 1991.
This old scanned photo shows the summit shelter atop Mt. Timpanogos. The photo was taken late August, 1991. A friend and I took full packs all the way to the summit and stayed the night in the summit shelter seen. After finding that we forgot our sterno stoves, we attempted to make cold "Cup O Noodles" for dinner. After that did not work out, we poured out the cold bullion mix on the rocks and ate the cold, still hard crunchy noodles. We did not get much sleep that night as the mountain goats that roam the upper summit area decided to keep us company. Starving the next morning, we awoke to the smell of bacon cooking, a group had hiked up during the early hours and made breakfast outside the shelter. We moved down the mountain as fast as we could to hit up the nearest McDonald's.

Shorts like that and white tennis shoes were the rage back then...

I'll never make the mistake of leaving the stove at home again after that one. That summit hut/triangulation shelter has probably seen some action since '91, I'll bet. I'm planning on getting back up to the peak this year some time, it's been a while.
