I can't get over the number of people. Does is make the climbing seem less committing with that many people on and around it?

I think it does seem less committing. For example, if a storm came, one group could join with another to make rappels or share clothing or something. That is a good thing. But on the other hand, with a feeling of less commitment, maybe you'll take things too lightly. At most places on the ridge, a fall would be deadly, no matter how many people are standing around!
