Sand Lizards [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Sand Lizards
Sand Lizards (Lacerta agilis) can be found in the Polish mountains up to the elevations of 1200 meters. Males are darker than females and turn green during the mating season. Sand Lizards are about 20 cm long and have a light underbelly. During winter they hibernate in soil. They come out in March or April and spend their days sunning themselves. Sand Lizards are under strict protection in Poland as well as throughout most of Europe.

mad about me voting objectively on some of your lessor quality photos, but this is what I can easily vote 10/10 on Henry, I love the photo and the detailed explanation....deserves POTD easily, but I doubt if it works out that way since Antonio is submitting today...

Thank you for the vote and comment. There are 4 species of lizards living in Poland and they are all under protection. They are all very quick and are a challenge to photograph. Henryk
