Approaching the permanent snowfield... [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Approaching the permanent snowfield...
... on the Mount Index West Ridge. We decided against challenging this on a hot day around noon. The threat of avalanche was enhanced by the 2000 foot cliff at the run out of the bowl. The summit is visible at the top center, painfully close after nine and a half miles. May 23rd, 2009.

lneherNice effort on snow

Voted 10/10

How did you approach the West ridge, and when did you get onto snow? That 2000' cliff at the bottom of the bowl does get your attention. I wasn't aware of it when I made the climb in '07.

We came up the abandoned logging road from the south. We hit snow around 3,500-4,000 feet.
