| Lone Peak Summit Ridge. | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |||
Taken from Lone Peak's slightly lower south summit, the knife ridge connecting the two can been seen to the lower right, Lone's primary summit at 11,253 feet in the center. This connecting ridge is not to be taken lightly, to the left is a sheer drop into the Lone Peak Cirque area, roughly 900 feet down. To the right of the ridge, steep snow chutes in excess of 60 to 70 degrees make their way down into the base of the upper portion of Bell Canyon. These chutes have cliff bands at the lower end. A self arrest on these chutes during warm days would be very difficult, the upper snow level becomes a slush pot anywhere from 6 to 10 inches deep. Once the snow has cleared the ridge is a fun ridge scramble, mainly class 3. The final summit blocks to Lone are class 4. May 29th, 2009. Comments |
