Uncomfortable Company [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Uncomfortable Company
While we were going up the trail this Grouse jumped right out of the bushes at us. Going back and forth in front of us. It seemed pretty mad at us we saw no nest so we assumed that we woke it up it eventually just got out of path and went somewhere else. June 2009. Photo by SP Member rebelgrizz

lcarreauNice one Mister Cougar ...

Well, I'm assuming some "wildfire ecology"
is responsible for this Grouse being here.

Plant succession created some thick patches of undergrowth, making the ground cover completely suitable FOR this species of bird.

And, thank God the bird is not related to the
"Cluckers!"

out of me yesterday on Dry Mountain. I had three incidents where all of a sudden a grouse jumped out of no where in an effort to protect their nest that I was obviously near. One literally attacked me but my handy hiking polels saved the day. Feisty birds, for sure.

Sounds like you had some ferocious birds Dean. This one just tried to scare us off it didn't attack us.

Well, perhaps we can all learn something from
our experiences. (I nearly stepped on a dove
the other day; the symbol for peace!)

I'm trying my best to keep the peace.

I've always tried to keep my biological
footprint upon the Earth to a bare minimum.

Actually, these birds have a different color
of plumage in winter, don't they ???
