Krupa river

Krupa river

Descending into the canyon of Krupa river, SE Velebit. It is amazing how this jewel river was unknown to most till recently, which is fantastic to say the least. Now when people discovered it I fear for its future. Together with Zrmanja river it should get the status of strict reserve which is higher than National Park. That would forbid any kind of human construction along the rivers and regulate wild (unregulated) rafting which is currently going on during summers when water is lowest, therefore damage to sedra sediment on waterfalls greatest. Traces of cultivation

The alluvial meadow shows traces of past cultivation (probably abandoned decades ago). It's amazing how people found this tiny patch of arable land, so precious in karst terrain, and still made very little harm to its natural surroundings...

... and I was lucky to see (and photograph) this place 2 weeks ago :-)

Re: Traces of cultivation

I wonder did trees by the river grow themselves or were planted by people to strengthen the edge of the meadow in fear that Krupa might take away the precious soil as it brought it there :-) But probably it wouldn't take it away because current is suitable for depositing on that spot or meadow wouldn't be there in the first place. It is amazing place Sven, it doesn't get any better. I was thinking that Kudin Most location must be most beautiful place by any river in Croatia. Of course I didn't see everything but I know more or less what is out there.
