Beautiful Demoiselle
The Beautiful Demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo - Polish: Switezianka dziewica or Switezianka modra) is a European damselfly. It is often found among fast-flowing waters from April through September. The female lays up to 300 eggs from which larvae hatch after 14 days. They survive winter in the mud or slime. Adults can reach length up to 50 mm and their wingspan is from 60 to 75 mm. Males have a metallic blue-green body and broad, dark wings with iridescent veins.. Females have a brilliant metallic green body and the wings are tinted golden brown with a distinctive white patch.
