The little town of Index three miles to the ENE and about one mile closer to the center of the earth than Persis' summit. The river flowing past the town is the North Fork Skykomish; the river coming in from the right is the South Fork. The powerline at right is rising up onto Heybrook Ridge. This ridge is where the Mountaineers conduct navigation field trips. The light-gray clearing along the highway just left of bottom-center is where these photos were taken. Sept. 19, 1999.
