The summit of Wilson Mountain is actually a large forested plateau with
several small knobs rising 50-100', with the true summit located on the
"plateau's" north side.

Wilson Mountain takes its name from Richard Wilson, killed while hunting
a grizzly bear in June 1885. His bear gun was undergoing repairs when he
spotted the tracks, but he headed out anyway with a smaller rifle.

Horsemen found his mauled body on the mountain's south side nine days later.

Also pictured are Devil's Kitchen sinkhole, Morning Glory Spire (a.k.a. The Sphinx), The Red Mitten, the mouth of Mormon Canyon and The Fin.

The deep red sandstone is called the Schnebly Hill formation, while the
"buff to gold-colored" layers (making up most of Wilson Mountain) are called
the Coconino sandstone formation.
