Larry and his wife (take a short break - that's her name) after scrambling over 600-feet to the First Saddle of Arizona's Cathedral Rock.
The ancient "Sinagua" Indians made the first ascents in the Sedona area,
edging up chiseled holds on steep slabs to reach their lofty cliff aeries.
Needless to say, lots of objective dangers are found on the Sedona spires.
These include loose blocks and boulders, removable handholds, bad bolts,
bad and hard-to-find protection, questionable anchors, and heinous
approaches filled with catclaw aracia, Spanish bayonet and several cactus
species.
Please ... wear a helmet and climb softly, placing lots of gear (from a large rack) on the routes!
As rock-climbing sensation Tim Toula notes in his book A Better Way to Die: "Don't fall! To fall on a route here is sheer stupidity. When in doubt, sew
it up !!!"
Until then, ENJOY THE SILENCE.

Hasn't voted | Thank you, Jacek!
My wife and I have thought about moving to
Canada many times, but AZ seems to be our
home for the moment.
Even though ... there seems to be a flood of
people moving North in order to escape from
the "sinking economy" of America. | | Posted Oct 8, 2009 1:19 pm |

Hasn't voted | Then again, Arizona doesn't have any water, so
guess I don't have to worry about sinking!

Voted 10/10 | Well, global warming combined with virtual economics will change it all. Both AZ and the North are gonna get flooded by that melting stuff while Antarctica goes up, clean and pristine, vast no man's land - so you'd better flee South! | | Posted Oct 10, 2009 6:33 am |

Hasn't voted | What's virtual economics?
Is that where everything is accomplished
via 3D-representation on the computer ???
Is it anything like "voodoo economics?"
Yes, I've always wanted to rub elbows with
Emperor Penguins and dance to the beat of...
"I Am The Walrus." | | Posted Oct 10, 2009 2:44 pm |

Voted 10/10 | I guess there'll be lots of definitions and meanings to 'virtual economics' but I did just mean kind of "voodoo" or maybe simply "PC" economics, according to which each walrus should spend fat as quickly as possible - relying on global warming - instead of saving it for the cool whiteout season. | | Posted Oct 11, 2009 8:13 am |

Hasn't voted | I'm predicting a "virtual explosion" of
the walrus population in the very near future.
Global warming will wipe out the Polar Bear,
creating a ripple effect in the food chain.
Then again, the Romanian Bear might possibly
make a surprising comeback or rebound. | | Posted Oct 11, 2009 4:13 pm |

Voted 10/10 | I hope all the Icelandic walruses are getting enough exercise swimming in where just last year rose an isle of a booming "PC economy" which - no doubt logically - ended up with a loud boom.
As to the Romanian bear, I'm afraid it's enjoying this new brave world of ours as much as its polar cousin. :(

Hasn't voted | What's sad is that mankind has been at the
mercy of Nature since the beginning of time,
and that "unspoken truth" will never change.
In the end, Nature will bite back at us and
transform our 'Plastic Society' to a pile of sand.
Until then, enjoy the silence. | | Posted Oct 12, 2009 1:50 pm |
